The other week I was talking with my 14 year old and she said that her friend was talking to her about going to the library. Her friend said “I don’t like to go there because there is this creepy guy who is always in there with his little white laptop.” Hmm. didn’t know that my presence was freaking out 14 year olds simply because I was there a lot with my “little” white laptop (maybe it was the laptop that was creepy). Anyway, the nice thing is that my daughter didn’t throw me under the bus, she actually claimed me. She said “Uh, that’s my dad.” Which I am sure made the friend feel a little awkward but she said “He’s there all the time!” (actually not true, I just happened to be there at the same time nearly every day which was probably when she was coming in). My daughter stood up for me and said “That’s because we don’t have internet.” and her friend said “Well, he’s still creepy.” We played a good one on her though. It happened to be that the next day was when we were getting our internet hooked up and I told her to tell her friend that I was so hurt by someone thinking that I was creepy that I could never go back there to use the internet. She did.

When I take my student to school there is always this one little kid there that just makes me smile. She looks to be about 5 and she has Downs Syndrome and is hearing impared but I have never once seen her where she is not smiling, happy and nice. She always says “hi” to my student even though she can only say half of his name, and she always seems to be delighted when he gets there. She waves at me and says “hello” every day also. I think there is a lot that a lot of us could learn from “handicapped” people.

This morning on my bus it was freakin cold! The rear heater does not work and the front one takes a long time to heat up that large space, so even with it on high the whole trip we wore our coats all the way and I have to keep my student near the front. I am really looking forward to some warmer weather (there was still frost on my rear windows after the bus had been running for an hour!). So today I drove on the bus (I was one of only two drivers working today) and I discovered that the speedometer doe not work. Lovely. The upside to that is I don’t need to worry about speeding. They told me to just keep up with traffic until the mechanic can get to it later this week. The downside is that if I am not maintaining the proper speed I arrive at my destination at the wrong time.
