Last week on vacation we discovered that our boat “the Ann” had a couple holes in it still. We discovered that by putting her on the lake and seeing that she leaked. So we hauled her up on the shore, tipped her on her side and I did some fiberglass repair work to get her back in ship shape. We then did some sailing on Saturday that was pretty wild. The wind was steady from the North West and very strong. So strong in fact that we almost tipped her over. We were so far over that water was coming in over the gunwhale. What a day!

today I ran errands, had a big breakfast of eggs pancakes, sausage coffee and juice (thank you Kathy), mowed part of the yard, ground off about 20 lbs of fiberglass from my boat so I can repair it (I turned white from head to toe except where the breathing mask covered my whole face), oh, yeah, and I flew a plane. I am sore and tired and had a great time. I didn’t get to do as much as Kathy did when she flew because it was pretty windy but I did get to fly us around a bit once we were up there. Thanks Bob!

Someone e-mailed me this youtube video. This guy is talking about political issues but you can’t tell if he supports any party (in fact it seems like he supports no party). I don’t know if eveything he says is accurate but if it is, then it makes a lot of sense. It also makes you wonder if our nation’s leaders are ignorant or willfully not making things better.

If you plan to do any shooting in the prone position anyway. I have learned this the hard way. Yeah buddy, there is nothing like laying down on some nice rocks and spent shells with your bear legs. I also went to the range once right from church wearing my black suit. fortunately I was only there to get some practice with my pistol so it wasn’t that bad. I didn’t do any prone shooting or even sitting on the bench. What I need to remember to do is to wear some tactical pants or some of my old BDU’s or even to just throw on some old jeans that I don’t much care about, but the whole idea of going in shorts is just a bad one. Not only do the rocks hurt but you occationally catch a nice hot brass as it ejects from your neighbors gun. Yup, sizzle on your skin, that’s always fun.

You know, I love the fact that the conservatives on the supreme court are completely sold out to the idea of being originalists to the constitution. But in this case I can’t help but wonder; “What are you smokin?!” They decided in a recent case that a man’s conviction had to be overturned because the testimony of his victim was used in the case. His victim happened to be murdered. They decided that he has a right to be able to question those who testify against him but he can’t question her… ’cause she’s dead! and she’s dead… ’cause he KILLLED HER! unbelievably written or recorded testimony from witnesses can be used against a person if they killed the witness for the reason of stopping their testimony. But since he only killed her because he was angry at her, it can’t be used. It was actually the liberal judges who sided against the killer and the conservatives who overturned his conviction. I am absolutely dumbfounded and don’t even know what to think.

I have been thinking a lot about getting some new Hunting Rifles. The only ones that I have now are my .22’s, which are fine for small stuff like squirrels but not too good for anything much bigger. I also have a nice old 8mm Mauser bolt action which is real accurate and I actually love to shoot it. I only paid $50 for it at a sporting goods store because it is 60 years old but I have put some money into making it real good. The problem is that it is getting nearly impossible to find any ammo for it. I have checked Wal-mart (yeah right) Meijer, Jay’s Sporting goods and Dick’s Sporting goods. Nothing. So I am thinking (just thinking at this point) of getting a new one. I am partial to the .223 caliber and I am real familiar with the AR-15 layout from the military. I could hunt just about anything with it. What do you think?
