This past weekend, my brother-in-law Ash and I went to a camping resort on Lake Michigan. We went down to the beach just before sunset and decided to walk and talk before a swim. We left our shoes and headed South. When the sun set I pointed out that it was going to get very dark soon. After a while I convinced Ash that we needed to reverse course. By the time we got back to the public beach area it was so dark we missed our shoes sitting there and ended up walking at least a mile or a mile and a half past the spot, completely lost for where the steps were leading off the beach. I kept saying “Just a little further and I think we will find it.” Ash convinced me otherwise and we went back, eventually finding our shoes. It all looks pretty much the same in the dark. I am glad no one moved our shoes.
Remember the place from which you have come
rain, rain, don’t go away
I currently sit on my front porch enjoying a cup of coffee and a good steady rainfall. The first rain in 11 days so we really needed it. Yesterday I worked and with any luck I will be spending the whole of next week in Detroit working with lots of OT. Today however I am still in my pajama shorts without shaving or having had breakfast yet. Just kind of lounging for the morn.
Flying today
My friends the Campbells are up this week to get in some flight time with my friend Bob. He let their oldest even do the landing (mostly). He said he might get me up there a little bit later but, hey, I live a mile from the airport and they drove up 5 hours to get here.
long time, no post
well it has been forever since I have put anything on this blog. I think I just got tired of it and I was Facebooking most things. It is high time that I got this going again. If there is anything you would like to see me post on, go ahead and suggest it. I am writing again, on my full length book. I am probably 2/3 of the way done with it, but no, other than a bit of a teaser I will not be posting it on here. You want this one, you are going to have to buy it. It has been in the works for many years (but most of those years it was not touched). I have actually had to go back in and update a few minor details because they were kind of out of date (technology wise). It does feel good to be back though.
PS I can’t find the USB connector for my wireless mouse. It disappeared here in my office. If it shows up at your house or office, will you let me know?
Facebook critical mass
I have come to the conclusion that there is a critical mass level on facebook. With too few people whom you have friended you will not tend to spend any time on the site because there is too little to read about and too few people who read your posts. At a certain point, and I don’t know where that is (I think it is different for everyone) you will have the right amount of “friends” and be very free with your posts. Then you reach a certain tipping point. You become “friends” with people on facebook that you really are not friends with. You have people who not only do not share your religious-political-social mores but will be just fine in telling you how you are stupid in your thoughts and opinions on such things. Nothing wrong with that per se, differing viewpoints are good and will either persuade you to change your thoughts or get you to think them through enough to be firm in believing them. but it will reach a point where you will be uncomfortable with the things people say. When this happens you have reached a certain level where you will be forced to do one of two things. You either edit who can see things that you post, or you cease to be as open and honest about what you think and believe. You may not have reached this point and it may be a lot higher for some people than for others, but keep adding people as “friends” and you will. Personally I have been just fine with ignoring several people who have sent me “friend” requests because they are not really my friends but merely people I am ever so faintly acquainted with. But that is just my opinion and I am sure someone will disagree with it and tell me about it.
It’s coming
We have made it to March. We are through with the three months who’s names mean winter. We are so close that it is tempting to think spring has arrived. It IS about 40 degrees outside and I can hear birds chirping, but don’t be fooled. We have two or maybe three weeks to go before Spring is actually here. We will get at least one bad snowstorm yet this year.
